A Little About Dave

Hi:

I’m Dave.  I think most of you who read what I write know me or at least followed me here from the other blog, if you are in that group you already know me.  To those of you that don’t know me allow me to introduce myself and share with you why and how “Random Thoughts of a Tired and Senile Old Man” became what it is.

I am a 70-year-old widower I live alone.  I believe it is the first time I have used that term to describe me; I am a widower it just sounds a little strange.  I don’t write for monetary gain or for recognition.  I write because I need the emotional release.  It helps me face tomorrow.

The last time I was in an English Comp class was in 1960 as a high school senior in rural Oklahoma.  I mention that so maybe you Grammar Police will cut me a little slack.

My daughter, Lori introduced me to the world of blogging in December of ’08.  My wife had just been diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer; we were starting treatment and I was her primary caregiver.  Our many friends and family were genuinely concerned about her condition.  I couldn’t care for her and handle the constant barrage of phone calls.  Lori suggested we use today’s technology and start a blog.

We started  “Mom Life Cancer “http://ourmom.wordpress.com/ in early December ’08 assuming it would probably run it’s course in a few weeks.  I committed to try to write the technical stuff, and to help a little.  Lori is not a professional writer but she probably could have been. The fight was long and vicious, on January 22 ’12 Cancer won.  I did a few posts after we lost the fight, the last one on February 20 ’12. The final stats were: 312 posts, 1,084 comments and 62,912 views.  Lori wrote some, I wrote some, she writes better but I had more time. We didn’t keep score but I probably did 75% of them.

If you or someone you know is fighting this thing called cancer, you might find our “Mom Life Cancer” blog beneficial or at least interesting.

Our family suffered additional tragedy in March, which is documented in this blog. I soon realized I needed to write again.  I had said a final goodbye in “Mom Life Cancer” a few weeks earlier and did not think it was appropriate to reopen it.  I did my initial post on a new blog called “Random Thoughts” on April 1st.

I’m not sure how long I will continue, I guess as long as it feels right. Most of the stuff I have written has been reasonably serious and from the heart.  I have a bit of a warped sense of humor and have always enjoyed humorous sarcasm.  I hope the heartache continues to heal, allowing me to transition to a more lighthearted or humorous writing style.

To all of you; thanks for stopping by feel free to hang around and see where this thing goes.

Dave

    • Cindy: Thanks so much for the nomination and for the kind words. I’m sorry for the late response, I was at the lake and it was very late when I saw it. I try not to do anything serious when I am there (except for an occasional “from the heart” blog). I put it on the back burner when I got home. So please accept this late but very sincere Thank you.
I am not sure I am talented enough to put eleven nominations together. I only read three other blogs regularly, yours is certainly one of them. There are a few others I check occasionally. Finding eleven interesting things about me would also be difficult, I am kind of just a boring old man. I will see if I can settle down, concentrate and put something together.
Keep writing and I’ll keep reading.
      Again, Thanks
      Dave
